Home Is Your Castle: Where Hope Lives

Something related to hope has been staring right at me for the entire time I’ve been authoring the Daily Dose of Hope—and I never noticed it—is the fact that a home can provide all of us with hope. In the english language, there is a phrase that your “home is your castle.” Consequently, I wanted to probe more deeply about why our homes—no matter the size or condition—are our castles and they can give us hope.

Recently, I started reading 1440 Daily Digest and realize it strips out opinion, sensationalism, and clickbait, presenting concise summaries gathered from a wide spectrum of mainstream sources. I hope you enjoy it.

Here are some of the reasons that I’ve come up with:

  • Your home provides shelter for you and your family. While this concept is quite basic, Maslow’s hierarchy shows that it is a critical need to protect you. No matter the size or location, it is there for you with shelter.
  • Caring for your house gives you hope. Whenever you fix something in your house, it gives you the feeling that you can handle things—no matter the size— large or small.
  • Your house provides a place to gather—for family and friends. The human bond that your home affords you shows that it can catalyze other forms of hope.
  • The sun shows up through the window. Your house shows you that a daily rebirth occurs every morning—which allows you to feel as if you have another opportunity to shine, yourself.
  • You decide what happens in the rooms of your house. This decision making on your part gives you control over “your space,” enabling you to have hope that there are things you can orchestrate as you desire.
  • Growth occurs in your home. You watch your children grow, maybe even through the pencil marks you place on a door frame; you, yourself, acquire wisdom as you age. All within the four walls of your home.
  • Your psyche resets every day in your house. As you lie down in your own bed, you feel the way the day is about to reset—as you get some needed sleep and rejuvenation through it.
  • Without being materialistic, you are enriched by those possessions that surround you. Your favorite chair, a blanket on the couch, and even a coffee cup that provides comfort by holding it. It really doesn’t take much to allow you to feel good again and be hopeful.
  • If you live in a part of the world where you experience four seasons, you become hopeful in the transition from a cold winter to a renewal you see in the spring—manifested through the regrowth you see in nature that surrounds your house.
  • Your home may not be a castle to the world, but to your hope, it's the only kingdom that matters.

Question

What are reasons that your house provides you hope? Please place them in the chat.
